Leandro Apaza Ramos is a native of Chinchaypujio, Leandro worked in his youth on a farm. He lost his sight at age 20 as a result of damages suffered in a truck accident in 1960. He has one brother, who still works as a farmer in the mountains. He has a wife and two children, Cesar and Maroja. Benjamin Clara Quispe is heard solo on this recording, and in duet with the harpist. He was born in Sicuani, and worked in a general store throughout his youth until he lost his sight in his adolescent years. He moved to Cusco around 1975, and has played music there since that time. Fidel Villacorta Tejada was born in Paruro and worked on a farm until he began to lose sight because of a degenerative eye disorder. He moved to Cusco around 1980, when he began to learn quena in order to perform as a street musician. His flute is heard on Chacabamba Parquecito. Carmen Apaza Ramos performs on Chacabamba Parquecito as an extra mandolin. He seldom plays with the other musicians but usually performs solo mandolin near the central plaza in Cusco. He lost his sight when he was five, a result of meningitis.
