Some more contemporary instruments may be used also depending, group to group; the guitar and synthetic keyboards are examples of later added instruments. The "flutes" and the "drums" were the actual 1st instruments of the ancient Inka. When the Spanish conquered the Andes and the Inka empire they brought with them different, more contemporary, instruments like the guitar, harps, and violins. With time, the people of the Andes learned to adopt these new instruments into their music and lifestyles. The Andean people even created their own instrument, the Charango (little guitar). It was more efficient for the mountain people to carry long distances. A list of the "traditional" instruments are: -The Quena (flute) is the oldest of the wind instruments; can be made of bamboo or wood. -The Zimpona (pan flutes); also may be called Siku. -The Charango (little guitar); 10 string guitar which can be made of armadillo shells or wood. -The Bombo (Inka drum); a 2 headed drum made from hollow tree trunks with skins stretched across each end. -The Chaccas (rattle); made from goat hooves Web Site: |
